Live in Washington Park or South Providence? Interested in climate risk and resilience strategies?

In 2024, together with the City of Providence, Groundwork RI, the People’s Port Authority and Save The Bay, PRP launched a three-year NOAA-funded technical analysis of the Port of Providence’s coastline, which borders the South Providence and Washington Park neighborhoods. The assessment is assessing current shoreline conditions and potential opportunities for improved climate resilience, habitat restoration and waterfront access.

Central to the project are the learning cohorts which meet monthly to learn about a wide range of topics such climate risk, resilience strategies, habitat restoration and other nature-based solutions, waterfront access, and much more. There are boat trips and other field trips that bring these topics to life. A key aspect is learning how the city makes decisions around these topics and how to engage in those decisions. The first cohort is still very much engaged — and getting involved in other related projects!
